Today’s announcement follows Wizz Air’s successful acquisition of 15 daily slot pairs at London Gatwick Airport and the launch of 14 new routes from Spring 2022.

The airline’s expansion at the airport, combined with the UK Government’s decision to adjust the airport slot utilization ratio to 70:30 for the 2022 summer season, reaffirms Wizz Air’s intention to fully utilize these slots at maximum capacity and demonstrates its long-term nature of the airlines commitment to the airport and the region.

Also, the government’s recent lifting of Covid travel restrictions represents a major step forward for the travel industry and has the potential to be a great opportunity for UK aviation to really get back on its feet.

From March 27, Wizz Air will fly five times a week to Venice, known as Italy’s “Floating City”, and twice a week to Palermo, the capital of the Italian island of Sicily, from March 29.

From June 13, Wizz Air will fly five times a week to the seaside resort of Varna in Bulgaria and from June 15 four times a week to Burgas, a major port city on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.

Not only is Wizz Air launching four more new routes, the airline is also increasing the frequency of its flights to Larnaca, Milan and Vienna from daily to twice daily on most days.

From the end of March, all Wizz Air flights from Italy to London will be flown to London Gatwick, giving passengers an excellent connection at great prices between the two countries.

Marion Geoffroy, Managing Director of Wizz Air UK, said: “Today is another important step in our continued expansion at Gatwick as we announced the acquisition of new slots at the airport.

“We have continued to call for the full reinstatement of the original 80:20 slot usage rules and welcome the government’s recent decision to adjust the ratio to 70:30 so that we can continue to capitalize on new market opportunities and even more low tariff opportunities for our customers who Supporting the recovery of the aviation sector, related industries and the local economy.

“The lifting of Covid travel restrictions for fully vaccinated passengers arriving in the UK is a positive development for the travel industry and we look forward to welcoming more customers on board our eco-friendly aircraft for their well-deserved holidays in 2022 and beyond. “
