The UEFA Futsal Champions League is returning to its regular format for 2021/22 and the season begins with the preliminary round draw, which will be broadcast live on Wednesday 7 July at 2:00 p.m. CET.
Four nations (Spain, Portugal, Russia and Kazakhstan) provide two clubs and eight representatives from these countries – including defending champions Sporting CP – are among the 23 highest-coefficient teams to receive byes for the main round, which will be drawn on August 30th. The other 32 teams start in the preliminary round, which will be played from August 20th to 25th and drawn on Wednesday.
This is how the draw works
⢠Eight groups of four are formed.
⢠The clubs are divided into four betting pots based on their coefficient.
⢠Eight teams starting in the preliminary round will be preselected as mini-tournament hosts and drawn separately from Pot 1 before they are placed in their respective seeding positions.
⢠Next, the remaining pages are drawn in seed position 4 and placed in the remaining slots for position 4 in the groups.
⢠The cruisers in position 3 (pot 3), position 2 (pot 4) and position 1 (pot 5) are drawn to fill the remaining places in the groups.
⢠Due to decisions of the UEFA Executive Committee, clubs from Kosovo and Serbia cannot be included in the same group.
⢠The group winners and the top runner-up will join the 23 clubs that advance to the main round.
