Three people died and a fourth is in critical condition in hospital after a lightning strike in the center of the Bulgarian capital Sofia, Bulgarian national television said on September 27.
The incident happened in the park next to the Church of Sveta Nikola between Pirotska and Opalchenska streets, the report said.
Bulgarian national television said that according to unconfirmed information, the dead were Syrian citizens aged between 20 and 30 who were standing under a large tree struck by lightning.
The fourth, allegedly a Syrian aged 26 to 27, is said to have been taken to the Bulgarian capital‘s Pirogov emergency hospital for treatment with 20 percent burns.
According to reports, parts of Sofia and surrounding villages in the district were temporarily without electricity after the violent storm. According to reports, around 800 lightning strikes were registered over the urban area of Sofia within 30 minutes.
