The Overseas School of Colombo celebrates a global award as the first Sri Lankan educational institution to holistically cover the broader spectrum of the academic field to ever win one ARC Award.
OSC reaches the Silver Award at the 36th Annual ARC Awards (headquartered in New York) for the 2020/21 OSC Annual Report, thematic “Our A-Team brings its A-Game to school”competing in the Non-Profit Organization category.
The prestige ARC Awards is known as the “Oscar of Annual Reports” and recognizes the highest standards in the annual report industry. The international award attracts hundreds of entries from over 80 countries around the world each year. Organized by MerComm Inc., the world’s only independent awards organization for the communications industry, the ARC Awards were established in 1987 to recognize excellence in annual reports.
The nominees for this year’s awards included leading global companies/brands such as Boeing, Abbott, Bank of America, PETRONAS, Walmart, BMW Group, Axiata, Olympus and Alibaba Group etc.
The principal; dr Michelle Kleiss shared her thoughts on this milestone: “I am very proud of OSC’s annual report and the recognition we have received from the ARC Awards. Our goal with our school’s annual report has always been to share our school’s story in a transparent way that communicates what we believe in most and what we value most in our community.”
Founded in 1957, OSC is the oldest international school in Sri Lanka and specifically the only IB World School in the country. An institution that represents its mission, vision and values and delivers excellence in holistic education consisting of learning, sports, music, theatre, improving social skills and networking, arts and more.
OSC has successfully created a unique, multiculturally rich ecosystem that encompasses its students, parents and faculty, all woven into its community fabric that embodies its motto of “Unity in Diversity” in its ethos.
OSC winning Silver was thanks to the heroic teamwork of its “A” team, made up of students, parents and teachers. It is the same unified community that has endured many tests and trials and survived the challenges that the pandemic presented when it first swept the globe.
The school adapted to the new path, navigating the drastic changes and colossal shifts in educational climate caused by the disruptions caused by COVID-19 and the many hurdles that have followed.
With the spirit of collaboration shared by every individual who is part of the ecosystem, the school was inspired to craft an annual report that is memorable, candid, honest and filled with pride and integrity.
“As the leading international school in Sri Lanka, we pride ourselves on not only being the first, but also the best at what we do,” he said Jehan de Silva; who leads the school’s branding, marketing and communications function. He added: “We are truly honored and incredibly proud of our success at the ARCs – thanks to our team, which we value above all else – making it a first for a Sri Lankan educational institution, an award that is sure to resonate and the future will inspire generations.”
