From India Today Web Desk: Terms like ‘varna’ and ‘jaati’ (caste) should be discarded entirely, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Friday.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat made the comments while speaking at a book launch event in Nagpur.
He said that the caste system was no longer relevant.
Citing the published book “Vajrasuchi Tunk” (written by Dr. Madan Kulkarni and Dr. Renuka Bokare), Mohan Bhagwat said that social equality is part of Indian tradition, but it has been forgotten and this has led to harmful consequences, reported PTI.
Referring to the claim that the varna and caste system originally had no discrimination and its benefits, Bhagwat said that if anyone asks about these institutions today, the answer must be, “It’s over, let’s forget it.”
“Everything that causes discrimination should get out of hand,” said the RSS boss, according to PTI.
He went on to say that previous generations have made mistakes everywhere and India is no exception.
“It shouldn’t be a problem to accept these mistakes. And if you think that our ancestors will become inferior if they accept that they made mistakes, then that will not happen because all ancestors made mistakes,” explained Bhagwat.
