The capacity of the consular service at the Bulgarian Embassy in London has been expanded, Bulgarian National Radio announced on February 7.
The extension and renovation includes not only the reception area, but also the rooms behind the counters where documents are processed. The idea is to improve the quality and speed of the service, BNR said.
The report quoted Ambassador Marin Raykov as saying the consular service was one of the few in London to remain open despite three consecutive lockdowns.
Raykov said a staff of just 11 served a Bulgarian community of 200,000 in the UK.
The head of the consular service, Nikolai Vanchev, said the embassy also serves more than 30,000 people with dual citizenship and around 10,000 to 12,000 British citizens residing in Bulgaria.
Raykov said the embassy received “not only understanding but also financial support” from the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the idea of opening a consular office in Edinburgh, and he hoped this would be implemented by the end of this year.
