Sofia Vatick Culver, Woman of Faith

Sofia Vatick Culver, 79, of Millsboro, formerly Dover, entered God’s eternal kingdom on Friday, July 1, 2022.

Sofia was born in Dover on April 13, 1943 to George and Madge Vatick (née Lodge). Sofia was a graduate of Caesar Rodney High School. After graduating, she married Donald G. Culver, with whom she co-owned Capitol Office Equipment and Supply before joining the Kent County Department of Treasury as an accountant. A person of great faith and a love of music, Sofia spent many years in the People’s United Church of Christ before moving to Millsboro, where she was an active member of the East Gate Presbyterian Church and sang in the church choir. For those lucky enough to know her, Sofia’s light and unyielding belief in God shone brightly and was visible to all.

In addition to her parents, Sofia was preceded in death by her 41-year-old husband and sisters Luxandra Hallberg of Crystal Lake, Illinois and Joanna Semans of Dover. She is survived by her children Donna L. Culver (David A. Smith) of Hockessin and Donald W. Culver (Lanna) of Milford; her sister Marina Ney (Bruce) from Magnolia; and her greatest treasures, her grandchildren: Brittany, Hunter, Sage and Taylor (Culver) and Katie and Cameron (Smith), around whom her life revolved.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, July 18 at 11:00 a.m. at East Gate Presbyterian Church, 34806 Church Lane, Millsboro, followed by lunch at Baywood Greens, 32267 Clubhouse Way, Millsboro, where the family will receive friends and family. The burial takes place privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Sofia’s honor may be made to East Gate Presbyterian Church, 34806 Church Lane, Millsboro, DE 19966.
