Queen Emerita Sofia of Spain continues her tour of food banks across Spain, most recently visiting Burgos – the capital of the Autonomous Community of Castile and León.

Queen Emerita Sofia visits food banks all over Spain as part of the Reina Sofia Foundation, which launched the “Operation Cold” campaign in October last year.

The aim of the campaign is to equip tables with equipment for storing and transporting fresh food and products.

Her Majesty surprised the Burgos Table with her early morning visit, Saturday October 2nd – something rare in royal engagements.

She was greeted by the Mayor of Burgos, Daniel de la Rosa, as well as other local dignitaries. The mayor spoke about the blackboard and how to tackle it, the challenges it faced and how they were resolved.

Her Majesty then took a tour of the facility and signed a guest book where she met the volunteers helping at the blackboard.

The Operation Cold initiative was launched by the Reina Sofia Foundation and has already pledged € 100,000 for more food diversity and fresh products in the tables across Spain.
