SOCHI, 29.09./TASS/. The Presidents of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, have ended their talks in Sochi. The talks began around 1:30 p.m. Moscow time and lasted about three hours.

“[The talks] are over, “Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told TASS when asked whether the talks were still ongoing.

The two leaders discussed that agenda in the economic sector and in international relations. Certain Putin pointed to the successful cooperation between the two countries on the situation in Syria and Libya. He also focused on the work of the Nagorno-Karabakh Armistice Control Center. According to the Russian leader, this cooperation is “a strong guarantee” of stability in the region.

Energy was also on the agenda. Putin thanked Erdogan for its stance on the construction of TurkStream, thanks to which Ankara feels safe amid the difficulties in the European gas market. For his part, the Turkish head of state addressed the topic of a joint project – the construction of the country’s first Akkuyu nuclear power plant, the first of which could be presented as early as next year.

This face-to-face meeting was the first of the two presidents in the past year and a half. Their last meeting was in the Kremlin in March 2020 when Erdogan also paid a working visit to Russia. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, subsequent discussions took place either by telephone or via video link, in bilateral or multilateral formats./TASS
