KUALA LUMPUR: An eight-year-old girl feared to have disappeared from school here on Wednesday evening (March 30) has been found safe.
This was confirmed by Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Idzam Jaafar (Image) when she was contacted by Bernama on Wednesday evening.
ACP Idzam said the child was found here in Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras.
“Currently, a police officer from the Cheras District Police Headquarters is taking a statement from the child’s mother,” he said.
Previously, the disappearance of Sofia Raniya, a student at SK Taman Midah 1, Cheras, had gone viral on social media after her mother could not find her when she went to pick her up from school on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, Sofiya’s mother Ryana Mohd Nor, 41, denied claims that her daughter accidentally got into the wrong van before being reported missing, as the family never used the transport service.
“Each day either I or my other family members will send the kids to school and pick them up, we don’t use the van service,” she told Bernama here Wednesday night.
Ryana revealed her daughter told her she had been asked by a man to get into a van before being dropped off in the lobby of an apartment building.
Ryana said she received a call from police at 9.30pm on Wednesday telling her her daughter had been found safe.
“I understand the police received a call from a resident of the apartment reporting a child who was left alone in the lobby of the apartment,” she said.
She also thanked the police and all parties who helped publicize her child’s disappearance until she was found. -Bernama
