A funeral service for Lucia âLucyâ Sofia Hooks, 98 years old, will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in Laurel Land Memorial Park (Ehrenfeld area) in Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Hooks passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 16, 2021, in Sulfur Springs, Texas. She was born on April 25, 1923 as the daughter of Ferdinand Josef Dossing and Luzia Adam Dossing in SaarbrÃ¼cken. Lucy worked as a nurse for the German International Red Cross in the mobile hospitals on the Eastern Front during World War II. Her first husband was killed on a German submarine after only 8 months of marriage. Lucy later met her future second husband at a Red Cross Christmas party during the war. Lucy arrived in New York on July 2, 1947 from Frankfurt, Germany. She married Robert “Bob” Hooks on September 13, 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland. On November 13, 1951, Mrs. Hooks proudly received her US naturalization certificate.
After living together in Ithaca, New York for many years, Robert and Lucy moved their family to Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Hooks worked in the Sears cosmetics and jewelry department. She and Bob also owned the American Indian House tipi, where she created beautiful Native American beadwork. Mrs. Hooks taught Sunday School in the Bethel Temple Assembly of God for many years. Lucy and Bob had been married for 52 years when he died in May 1999.
In her later and final years, Lucy, or Grandma, loved all of her family members to spend her time doing crossword puzzles, crocheting, and attending her great-grandchildren’s sporting and school events. She loved flowers and all animals, especially dogs and horses, her family and God. Her warm smile, her gentle hugs and her quick nod of the head will be remembered and missed by many.
Survivors include her daughters Sylvia Fox and husband Lenwood from Sulfur Springs, Lynn Frye from Dallas, and Katrina Shepherd from Quinlan; 15 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren.
Her parents Ferdinand and Luzia Dossing preceded her in death; first husband, Werner Bollinger; Husband, Robert Hooks; Brother Karl Dossing; and son of Peter Hooks.
Lucia Hooks lived a long, fulfilling life and left quite a legacy. She is deeply missed by family, friends and acquaintances, but we can all be happy to know that she is now with God in heaven.
