In just a few days, When We Were Young has grown into one of the most exciting events of 2022. The festival, which is set to be headlined by My Chemical Romance and Paramore, has sparked some safety concerns since it was announced earlier this week. As such, Live Nation released a statement addressing what potential contestants have said.
When fans found out that When We Were Young was being organized by Live Nation, they took to the internet to express their concerns, particularly the fact that Live Nation also organized the disastrous Astroworld Festival that took place in Houston last November. The entertainment company is currently under investigation and is facing multiple lawsuits over the tragedies that occurred in Texas during the event.
“When We Were Young Fest looked pretty cool until you realize it’s $225 a day non-refundable and is run by the same company that was responsible for Astroworld and you realize they really just do the pop.” punk scene to repay their legal costs,” one user wrote on Twitter.
“All of Emo America or possibly even Emo Overseas struggling to get to the top of an MCR/Paramore show is Astroworld Part 2 waiting to happen,” reads a screenshot from another post, that was circulated.

“The safety of fans, artists and staff is being thoroughly planned by the promoters and in coordination with local authorities,” Live Nation wrote in a response statement [via Chron]. “We’ve seen a lot of excitement surrounding this festival and look forward to hosting an incredible event for all fans this October. We encourage fans to check the festival website and social media for the latest updates.”
“Set times will vary, with earlier bands having shorter sets and the headliners having the longest,” the company continued. “Typically for many festivals, earlier acts are 20 to 30 minutes long, while headliners are often longer, closer to 45 to 60 minutes or more.”
When We Were Young will be held at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 22nd. Bring Me the Horizon, Avril Lavigne, Taking Back Sunday, A Day to Remember, AFI and Jimmy Eat World are just a few of the many artists performing at the event.
