In an effort to bring together like-minded people who want to take action during these challenging times and help other Sri Lankans in need, Dialog Foundation, together with Lead Moderator – Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement and Independent Auditor – PwC Sri Lanka, launched Karuna.lk , Sri Lanka’s premier crowdfunding platform featuring verified and trusted nonprofits, organizations and causes.
Against the backdrop of the country’s economic crisis, this timely and relevant initiative aims to empower and enrich life in Sri Lanka through social responsibility, backed by a trusted and secure fundraising engine operating at the highest levels of government. Individuals, nonprofits and organizations can follow the verification process reviewed by category specific/specialist moderators and register their cause/charity on Karuna.lk for access to a totally free and easy-to-use service.
In addition, the platform offers donors full visibility into the flow of funds to beneficiaries, as well as access to a variety of social causes covering a variety of categories including healthcare, community, education, emergency, environmental, sports, cancer, animal welfare and volunteerism. Karuna.lk is home to a variety of government recognized charities including UNDP, Red Cross, SOS Village, Heart To Heart Trust Fund, PRDA, Samastha Lanka Kidney Patient’s Association, Child Action Lanka and more. Convenient donations can be made using a range of payment options including debit/credit cards (Master and Visa), eZ Cash, Dialog Add-to-Bill, Star Points, bank transfers or online bank transfers.
On this occasion, Supun Weerasinghe, Group Chief Executive of Dialog Axiata PLC said: “It is a great pleasure and privilege for the Dialog Foundation to launch Karuna.lk. This platform offers those willing and able to help a trusted and reliable way to help those in need by donating a meal, helping a child with his education, protecting Sri Lanka’s natural reserves and more. As a conscious corporate citizen and trusted digital companion to over 17 million people in Sri Lanka, Dialog continually dedicates its services to empowering and enriching the lives of the people of Sri Lanka. In October, the Dialog Foundation will be celebrating 10 years of service and I think the launch of Karuna.lk is a fitting tribute to the occasion.”
On this occasion, Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne, President of the Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement: “It is always a pleasure for the Sarvodaya Movement to be associated with Dialog and the Dialog Foundation. Compassion and kindness are the foundation of what Sri Lanka is built on and Karuna.lk will provide a platform for causes to raise their voices and reach out to those willing to help with a trusted platform. The Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement is pleased to serve as the main moderator of the Karuna.lk platform where we will review the requests and recipients recorded on Karuna.lk. With 60 years of experience serving Sri Lanka, we are confident that we can provide the support needed to support this relevant and timely initiative.”
