Goggia fastest in the first practice run before the weekend of the women’s races in Lake Louise


LOUISE LAKE, Alta. – Italian Sofia Goggia set the fastest time in the first training session as the world’s best female skiers prepared for two downhill races in Lake Louise this week. Goggia sped down the hill in a minute.

LOUISE LAKE, Alta. – Italian Sofia Goggia set the fastest time in the first training session as the world’s best female skiers prepared for two downhill races in Lake Louise this week.

Goggia rushed down the mountain in one minute for 51.96 seconds, followed by the Slovenian Ilka Stuhec (1: 52.26) and the Swiss Joana Haehlen (1: 52.54).

Marie-Michele Gagnon from Lac-Etchemin, Que., Had an impressive first practice run and finished seventh in 1: 53.13.

US star Mikaela Shiffrin finished 17th in 1: 53.86.

The skiers get two more training runs before the first of two downhill races begins on Friday. This is followed by a downhill Saturday and a Super-G racing Sunday, provided the weather is good.

A build-up of snow devastated the men’s World Cup stop in Lake Louise last week, causing the cancellation of one of two downhill races and the Super-G on Sunday.
