The cause of the fire is currently not public.
According to the Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response, the fire started just after 2 a.m. on Friday with crews from the Dryden Fire Department and Dryden Ambulance arriving just after 2:20 a.m. to assist the Varna firefighters
Crews from Varna, Etna, Dryden, Freeville, Cayuga Heights, Groton, Ithaca, Cortlandville and McLean Fire Departments, Dryden Ambulance, Airport Crash Fire Rescue and New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control Investigators either assisted with extinguishing or were on standby for the big building fire at 1285 Dryden Rd.
According to TCDER “all occupants arrived safely and without injuring the fire brigade personnel”.
It is currently unclear what the next steps will be for the restaurant that has weathered the economic hardship of the coronavirus pandemic. According to 14850.com, the facility was only newly owned last week.
A post on the restaurant’s social media shows a video of crews spraying water on the burned building with the caption “Sad day my friends ..”
