Devastating fire at Plantation Bar & Grill closes Route 366


Route 366 will remain closed Friday morning as rescue workers put out a devastating fire that broke out overnight at the Plantation Bar & Grill in Varna, east of Ithaca and the Cornell campus.

It is believed that everyone is safe and will be held accountable after the fire that has now been extinguished.

To update: Route 366 reopened around 11:30 a.m.

The plantation had adapted several times in the past 15 months, offering takeout, alfresco and eventually indoor dining when restrictions allowed, and even offered free “drive-through” meals weekly to anyone who needed them .

Just last week the business changed hands and the new owner helped support bartender Nick Acquilano’s fundraiser for Tompkins County’s SPCA.

The Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response thanked the Varna, Etna, Dryden, Freeville, Cayuga Heights and McLean Fire Services, Dryden Ambulance, Airport CFR, Ithaca FD and Cortlandville FD for on-call and OFPC investigators.
