Davis sets new international Rangers record – Vital Rangers

Steven Davis set a new record for the Rangers’ best national player, now with the great number of 130.

Despite the gratifying personal award that is likely to last for a long time, it was a night of disappointment for Northern Ireland when the country lost 2-1 to Bulgaria in Sofia.

A lead by Conor Washington in the first half after a VAR decision was eliminated in the second half thanks to a wonderful, reckless one-two punch from Todor Nedelev of Botev Plovdiv.

The 28-year-old showed a remarkable individual quality on both goals, so that Bailey Peacock-Farrell had no chance between the sticks for NI.

On the night, several former Rangers players appeared for Norn Iron, with Jordan Thompson and Shane Ferguson starting the game, as well as Jordan Jones coming off the bench late.

Questions are put to manager Ian Baraclough, who is being scrutinized with his record of just three wins from 18 games.

In that game, NI missed several chances in the first half but simply didn’t react after the break when the hosts made tactical changes – it was a pathetic display with no reaction.

Baraclough’s team has now given up third place in Group C, which is the goal as the playoff spot is already unreachable before tonight in all reality.

That was confirmed after the games on Tuesday evening and now the remaining goal for the end of the season is clear.

There are two home games to come next month, with Lithuania and Italy moving to Belfast – 4 points are the goal and possibly to save the coach’s job, while Bulgaria only has one game left – to travel to Switzerland, who are currently among the best together with the Italians.
