In 49th place in the CPL50 comes the young midfield maestro from Pacific FC, Alessandro Hojabrpour. Hojabrpour was picked for the seat ahead of his heroic goal in the CPL final and has landed a little under the radar in three seasons on Vancouver Island, but he has nonetheless established himself as one of the most talented and dependable central midfielders in the league.
Hojabrpour, still barely 21, has played 63 games for Pacific in the CPL for over three years. In 2021, he fully established himself as an integral part of the club’s midfield, playing 26 games for the team in the regular season and in the CPL playoffs. He was a constant presence on the ball, only being expropriated three times throughout the season as he formed a reliable link between the defense and Pacific’s attack. Born in Burnaby, who spent much of his youth career at the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy – apart from a stint in Bulgaria with Lokomotiv Plovdiv – has grown into an intelligent, mature midfield player who reads the game as well as anyone in the league .
Though he’s not usually the player to make the headlines, Hojabrpour was the one who delivered the heroics for Pacific in the 2021 CPL Final when he scored the only goal of the game with a header from a set piece (a moment he has since as one of the greatest of his life) to beat Forge FC 1-0 and bring the North Star Shield to Vancouver Island for the first time.
Due to his impressive performance in 2021, Hojabrpour was recently named one of three finalists for the CPL’s Canadian U-21 Player of the Year.
