“Whatever the history, whatever the pretext for the war in Ukraine, nothing can justify trampling on the country’s national sovereignty, suffering casualties, destruction and great suffering. The war in the immediate vicinity of our borders is radically changing the security environment in the region.” This was said by president rumen Radev after a meeting with Romanian counterpart Klaus Johannes on Tuesday.
“The European security system built up over decades is collapsing before our eyes. Systems and supply routes, communication lines, their disruption, the threat to energy security, the imposition of unprecedented sanctions on Russia are putting our economies and social systems to the test.” added Bulgaria‘s President.
Accordingly RadevAll these processes reinforce the unity and determination of the European Union and NATO for coordinated action across the spectrum of international relations. “Romania and Bulgaria share responsibility for the system of phased deterrence and defenses implemented under the auspices of the Alliance to ensure security and stability in our region.” the president stressed.
According to the head of state, the crisis in Ukraine has highlighted the great need for comprehensive connectivity between countries Romania and Bulgaria – Infrastructure, transport, energy, digital, technological connectivity for new fuel pipelines, especially in times of crisis and war.
“I expect, and this is our joint appeal to the governments of the two friendly countries, strong action to overcome the drastic gap in our connectivity over the past 30 years. We’ve been talking about bridges, highways, railroads, pipelines for a long time. This war has clearly shown that it is high time to take strong action and close this backlog.” Radev called.
Radev stated that he had always been in favor of an increased air police force. “Not only does it enable more safety, but also better training for our crews. But I’m totally against it Bulgaria losing that ability. If we allow this out of carelessness, ignorance or hysterical ideologization of the problem, that is what it means Bulgaria to renounce the protection of its own airspace and its obligations to NATO’s collective defense”. said the President.
As part of the bilateral talks, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development was defined as a common goal in addition to Schengen. “We are together again there and I think that with joint efforts we will soon achieve success,” added our head of state.
