Just a week before the pop culture convention Phoenix fan fusion begins, one of his most famous guests has said goodbye.
Christopher Eccleston, perhaps best known as the Ninth Doctor Doctor Whoannounced on May 21 that he would not be appearing at the event.
In a video that Phoenix Fan Fusion posted to their social media accounts over the weekend, Eccleston explained the schedule change.
“Hello everyone in Phoenix, Arizona, Grand Canyon State,” he began. I’m sorry I can’t attend the con this year. I’m in Varna, Bulgaria, making a film called The young woman and the sea with the amazing Daisy Ridley war of stars … I’ve tried everything, the production has tried, but I just can’t get away with it.
“I’m particularly saddened because we’ve had so much disruption to our conventions over the past two years with the pandemic. I’m really sorry not to see you. If I wasn’t Chris Eccleston and I was the ninth doctor and I had a blue box and a sonic screwdriver, I could do it, but I can’t. i send you all my love I hope you have a great great con and will be awesome to see you very soon. Much love. Bye.”
Participants who pre-purchased an autograph or photo were refunded.
There are many more actors in the Fan Fusion lineup, including Patrick Warburton, Felicia Day, Kate Mulgrew, Anthony Rapp, and Chuck Norris.
This year’s Phoenix Fan Fusion will take place from May 27th to May 29th. (Click here for the Phoenix New Times Guide to the event.) To purchase passes, autographs, and photo ops, visit the Phoenix fan fusion Website.
